After we tried out all the teachers experiments we got to pick our own one's to do. I worked with Maia for this and our question was
What causes different liquids to not mix with water?
We tried out 4 different liquids and wrote down about what happened with each one.
- Vinegar. The Vinegar mixed very easily with the water as its self is quite a watery consistency.
- Honey. The honey was very very thick and it just sat in a big clump at the bottom of the cup .
- Oil, the oil separated itself from the water making a cool lava lamp effect.
- Maple syrup, the maple syrup mixed right in with the water as well making a brown coloured liquid.
We think this happened because they had different denseness. Like the oil is a very different consistency to the oil but neither of them mixed in with the water.
