My family treasure

This term for P.B.L we asked our parents to see if we have a treasure at home our in our family that is special to our family. I brung in a satchel that my granddad bought back from the war in Egypt.

My Granddad went all the way to Egypt to fight for our country in World War 2. If we didn't have brave soldiers like him we wouldn't have the freedom in our lives that we have today. My Granddad Walter Charles Wall served our country during the second world war being on active duty for four years as a driver. The weather in the deserts of Egypt were very hot and harsh on the soldiers. The hot winds in the deserts caused sandstorm which could last up to hours or even up to days at a time.
This satchel is very precious to my family as my Granddad bought it back  with him when he returned home safe and sound when the war finished. Granddad told dad that when he returned from war he would use a sauna in the cathedral square with other soldier friends to get out the sand that was caught in there skin. Dad said that they would go in the saunas which would open up the pores in their skin and let all the sand out then they would jump into an ice-bath which would close all there pores up and not let it back in. It could take up to hours or even up days to get it all out. This satchel is very old and dusty. It is quite a dark brown and it was carvings of Egyptians walking camels on the front and on the back.

  3. Ella I loved reading your post - it was really interesting as you showed me the satchel after school. I have been to Egypt, I loved it. But I was lucky because there was no war and I just had fun. Your Grandad was very brave. Would you like to go to Egypt?
