Maths W8

Aloha welcome back to my blog,

This week in maths my goal was too: Solve problems with fractions, decimals, proportions and ratios using a broad range of strategies. I had three questions to do for problem solving they were,

1. A baby meerkat was born 3/4 of a month early. At birth, its weight was 7/8 kilograms, which is 9/10 kilogram less than the average weight of newborn meerkat at Orana Park.

What is the average weight of newborn meerkat?

2. A mature rhino typically stands about 1.3 m high at the shoulder, has a length of 3.2 m and weighs around 700 kg.If a mature rhino is given new food and gains weight, putting on 0.67 kg of weight a week for a year what will it weigh at the end of the year based on the average starting weight shared above?

3. If there are 94 students in Kaupeka and Hero Data shows that 13% of students are sick on the day of the trip to Orana Park how many students will be attending the trip?

Remember that there can only be whole students attending the trip and that Hero will have rounded up the data to get a whole number percentage.

I will show you how I worked out the first one. First I did 1kg divided by 8 which equalled 125 then I did 125x7=875.

Next I had to do 1kg divided by 10=100 100x9 = 900 Next I did 875+900=1.775. So the average weight of the meerkat = 1.775kg.

See you next time Bye :)
